MSBA: Middle School Basketball Association
Urban Youth Initiative believes in the power of sports. Children need physical activity. The correlation between academic achievement and the access to organized physical activites, is unprecedented. Unfortunately, in urban settings, access to organized activities are very limited. There are programs working to address this deficiency, however, there are still major shortcomings. The Urban Youth Initiative has proudly launched the Middle School Basketball Association, or MSBA.
The MSBA will work primarily with public middle schools that have partnerships with local CBOs to provide intramural basketball competition between public middle schools, starting first with schools in the Bronx and eventually servicing all middle schools through out NYC. The UYI's MSBA initiative will combine stringent academic requisites to safe inter-school competition, to foster strong academic and athletic readiness to boys and girls that attebd public middle schools. The MSBA will be apart of a the JHSAL (Junior High School Athletic League) program developed by UYI to forge a new pipeline between middle school athletic programs and PSAL, which is the athletic league servicing NYC public high school students.
